About Anna

AnnaHi! My name is Anna Curtis. I am a fully qualified and insured clinical, sports and remedial massage therapist, personal trainer and pilates instructor working in the Surrey area. I have a background in science, completing a BSc in Genetics and a PhD in Biology. While I was working in a field that had the potential to help many people, I wanted to work directly with people, and to see how my work was helping people. I have always had a keen interest in sports and fitness, and have trained to a high level in classical ballet for over 30 years. In addition, my father has always been a keen sportsman and competed in rugby fives at a national level until the age of 60. I have learned over the years how important it is to be exposed to good advice for training practices, injury rehabilitation and general care of your body. I have also spent some time working in an office environment, and know only too well how the daily grind of the office and long commutes on overcrowded trains can affect your body. More recently, I have been lucky enough to become a mum to two gorgeous children, which has opened my eyes to the massive stresses pregnancy, birth and bringing up a child put on your body.

Upon leaving my laboratory career, I trained as a Personal Trainer and then Sports Massage Therapist. I then went on to train as an instructor in mat based pilates, Pre- and Postnatal exercise prescription, and gained a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy. My training as a personal trainer and pilates instructor helps me to create rehabilitation programmes for my clients. I aim to utilise my knowledge of the human body, my science background, and my interests in sport, and in particular dance, to not only treat injuries, but also treat the cause of the injury.

As a Clinical, Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist, I have treated a range of people, from runners hoping to improve their performance and overcome long standing 'niggles', marathon runners in preparation for and following events, swimmers competing at a national level, manual labourers, musicians, office workers who have developed poor posture, people with chronic back, shoulder and neck injuries, and mums who are in pain as they will do anything to keep their child in that awkward position if it means they sleep!

I am fully insured, qualified in emergency first aid, and a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists. I stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and research, and regularly addend 'continued professional development' courses to further my skills. I have recently completed a 3 year BTEC Level 6 Professional Diploma in Advanced Clinical Massage and Sports Massage at the JING Institute of Advanced Massage in Brighton. This is the highest level qualification available to massage therapists and equivalent to a degree level qualification. During this qualification, I completed a research project looking into how massage affects the symptoms of urinary incontinence in postnatal women, and their quality of life.
